In honor of Ronald H. Brown’s legacy, the Ron H. Brown Scholarship encourages higher education for civically engaged and intellectually capable African Americans.
About the Scholarship
To the most talented and financially strapped high school seniors who demonstrate a significant interest in public service, the Ronald H. Brown Scholarship Program (RBSP) awards 45–50 $40,000 four-year scholarships ($10,000 per year).
The four pillars of the late Ronald H. Brown’s goal to uplift people of all races, cultures, and nationalities, especially our underprivileged kids, are also community participation, business entrepreneurship, and global citizenship.
The recipients of renewable scholarships may enroll in any accredited four-year college or institution in the United States.
Ron Brown scholarships are not limited to any one subject of study or career objective and can be used to pursue any academic field.
Since the program’s inception in 1996, more than 450 students have been selected as Ron Brown Scholars.
The Ron Brown Scholarship demands that applicants be black or African Americans, current high school seniors, and US citizens or permanent residents.

Eligibility Requirements
In order to qualify, applicants must:
1. At the time of application, be a senior in high school who is black or African American, a citizen of the United States, or a lawful permanent resident.
2. College students who are currently enrolled are not eligible to apply.
Candidates must exhibit leadership and academic accomplishment.
3. Have the required abilities, engage in volunteer activities, and demonstrate a need for money.
Selection Process
Ron Brown Scholars are chosen in the spring, just before they begin college. Officials from the Ron Brown Scholar Program reviewed submissions between November and February.
The Ron Brown Scholar Fund will pay for the finalists’ transportation to Washington, DC, for a weekend selection procedure in March.
Finalists are interviewed by members of the Ron Brown National Election Committee, and they are required to participate in a number of weekend activities.
Scholarship awardees are selected based on their application materials, interviews, and participation in Selection Weekend activities.
Application Deadline
Application deadlines for the Ron Brown Scholar Program (applicants must be current high school seniors at the time of their application) currently have just one option:
1. January 9 (postmarked) is the last day to be taken into consideration for the Ron Brown Scholar Program.
2. All required materials must be provided together if applied for by mail. It is OK to enclose sealed official transcripts from your school with your application materials.
3. All required materials must be submitted in one email if applying by email. Send your application materials via email to info@ronbrown.org. Please include your certified high school transcript and letters of recommendation when you send this email.
4. If at all feasible, have your school or college counselors send documents by email so they may hand deliver your official transcript and letters of recommendation at that moment.
5. Incomplete applications won’t be accepted. Only semifinalists and winners will get notification of their status from the Ron Brown Scholar Program office in March.
6. Once they have been informed by April 1, the names of the scholarship winners will be made public on the Ron Brown Scholar Program website in May.

Scholarship Conditions
The recipient must be an active National Eagle Scout Association member for the duration of each award period.
The scholarship winner is required to enroll in, maintain, and provide NESA documentation of their full-time status at the preferred college, university, or skilled trade school for the period of the award.
All funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s preferred college, university, or skilled trade school for tuition, room, and board, and books during the scholarship’s duration, which is limited to four years.
The award winner must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credits) in a course of study leading to a recognized educational institution’s academic degree (including associate degrees) or a skilled trade program.
Now that you can take advantage of this and join the Ron Brown Scholarship Family, you should no longer make the justification that you lack the finances for your education.
