UTRGV Scholarships

Scholarships are forms of financial aid that don’t demand repayment. For new freshmen, transfer students, graduate students, and undergraduate students, there are particular scholarships available.

About UTRGV Scholarships

The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) offers a variety of scholarships for both undergraduate and graduate students. These scholarships are typically awarded based on academic merit, financial need, and other criteria, such as leadership and community service.

1. UTRGV Merit Scholarships

These scholarships are based on academic achievement and are awarded to incoming freshmen and transfer students who have excelled in high school or community college.

2. UTRGV Need-Based Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate financial need. Students who apply for need-based scholarships will need to provide information about their family income and expenses and any other sources of financial aid they have received.

3. UTRGV Graduate Scholarships

4. UTRGV Leadership Scholarships

5. UTRGV Athletics Scholarships

Many of the colleges at UTRGV offer scholarships to students in their respective majors. For example, the College of Business and Entrepreneurship offers scholarships for business majors, while the College of Engineering and Computer Science offers scholarships for engineering and computer science majors.

Furthermore, UTRGV offers a variety of other scholarships for students who have unique circumstances or experiences.  

The university offers scholarships for students who are veterans or military dependents, as well as scholarships for students who are members of specific ethnic or cultural groups

How to Apply for UTRGV Scholarships

It’s important to note that each scholarship has its own eligibility requirements and application process, so interested students should visit UTRGV’s scholarship website for more information and to apply.

1. Login with your UTRGV Student Credentials at www.utrgv.edu/applyscholarships

2. You will be matched to UTRGV and external scholarships as you answer questions in the Questions tab.

3. Review UTRGV and external scholarships available in the Scholarships tab.

4. Complete any scholarship applications available under the Applications tab.

5. The scholarship application requires admission into a degree-seeking program. If you have not submitted your admission application, below are the respective links to apply.

Eligibility Requirements

Although the requirements vary, these are things to look out for.

1. The candidate must be enrolled in a particular number of hours

2. Most require U.S. citizenship or legal permanent resident status (international students may apply)

3. Program of study/college-specific

Application Deadline

The application becomes available every year in the first week of October.

1. For High School Seniors, it closes on December 1st

2. For Undergraduate and Graduate Students, it closes on February 1st
