National Overseas Scholarship – The Indian government agency, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, offers the National Overseas Scholarship. With the help of this program, students from socially and economically disadvantaged groups can take advantage of the chance to attend an approved university overseas.
It is a based-on-need scholarship for Indian students who intend to study their Master’s and Ph.D. in the following fields: engineering, management, pure and applied sciences, agricultural sciences and medicine, international commerce, accounting and finance, humanities, and social science. Student women are eligible for 30% of these scholarships.
Although the majority of universities in Australia, the US, Germany, Canada, and other countries accept the National Overseas Scholarship, applicants are still urged to confirm this before beginning the application process. The two-year validity of this visa is extended to 100 students.

Educational Qualification
The following requirements must be satisfied by SC, ST, or OBC applicants for the National Overseas Scholarship:
- Minimum of 55% for master’s degrees, or its equivalent at the undergraduate level.
- Minimum 55% for a doctoral degree, or its equivalent at the master’s level
- Candidates should understand that those with suitable experience will be given precedence.
- As of April 1, 2022, applicants must be under 35 years old.
- Maximum Permitted Income: The combined household income cannot be higher than 6,00,000 INR.
- Children Requirements: To be eligible for a National Overseas Scholarship, a parent must have two children.
- The applicants must also meet the minimum score requirements for exams like the IELTS, PTE, GMAT, GRE, etc. in addition to these requirements. The minimal ELP and other test score requirements vary from university to university.
Application Process
On the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s official website, the application form can be found starting in the second week of February. Students must submit a fully completed form and documentation that have been self-attested to the ministry.
Selection Process
All applications are given fair consideration by the National Overseas Scholarship Selection Committee. Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements are chosen to receive the scholarship grant.
Additionally, the National Overseas Scholarship panel places emphasis on the following factors:
- To be taken into consideration, applications must arrive before the deadline.
- People who have already been accepted to universities in the UK, Germany, Canada, etc. will be given preference.
- Students who have not yet been accepted to an international university will also be given conditional consideration.
If there is a tie between a number of applications, the procedure described below shall be used:
- The available opportunities earmarked for female applicants will initially be offered to the most eligible candidates.
- The remaining spaces will then be filled by the qualified applicants who are older than the age limit, starting with the oldest candidate and going down in age order.
Remember that there won’t be any more interviews or group discussions for applicants.

Grant Details
The National Overseas Scholarship helps students with the following expenses that may arise while studying overseas. The following list of expenditures is provided as part of the scholarship:
- Maintenance Allowance
- Contingency Allowance
- Medical Insurance Premium
- Air Passage
- Poll Tax
- Incidental Journey and Equipment Allowance
- Visa Fees
- Tuition Fees
- Local Travel
By accepting teaching or research assistantship positions, students are also permitted to augment their stipends. 100 spots for scholarships will be made available by the organization to deserving students in 2022-2023.
