Mypickering Fellowship
The Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship is designed to attract highly talented students enrolled in academic programs related to global affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy.
Its aim is to draw exceptional individuals from diverse ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds who are interested in pursuing a career in the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Service.
This fellowship opportunity is open to both undergraduate and prospective graduate students.
Recipients of the fellowship will receive financial support of up to $42,000 annually to cover tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees during their senior year of college and their first year of graduate study, or during the first two years of graduate study.
Undergraduate fellows are required to commit to pursuing a graduate degree in international studies at one of the taking part graduate schools in the program.
Each successful candidate is obligated to serve a minimum of three years as a Foreign Service Officer as part of their commitment.

Eligibility Criteria
1. To apply, individuals must hold U.S. citizenship.
2. For the undergraduate fellowship, candidates should be in their junior year of undergraduate studies.
3. Applicants must have and maintain a GPA of 3.2 or above when applying and throughout their involvement in the program.
4. For the graduate fellowship, applicants should be seeking admission to graduate school for the upcoming academic year.
5. Recipients of the fellowship are expected to complete both a domestic and an overseas summer internship.
Application Procedures
1. All applicants are required to complete an online application form. Additionally, the following supporting documents must be submitted in hard copy:
- For those who have received financial aid, please include a copy of your most recent financial aid letter detailing grants or loans. Alongside this, provide a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR).
- Proof of U.S. citizenship can be demonstrated by providing a copy of your U.S. passport, birth certificate, or naturalization papers.
- Submit either SAT or ACT scores OR GRE scores.
- Include two letters of recommendation.
- Supply official academic transcripts from each undergraduate institution attended.
- Prepare a two-page resume.
2. Applicants who exhibit exceptional leadership skills and academic excellence in fields pertinent to the U.S. Department of State’s work, such as international affairs, management, communications, history, political science, economics, and foreign languages, will be given special consideration.
Financial needs will also be taken into account during the evaluation process.
