Eligibility Requirements

1. You must have a Black African, Black Caribbean, Black Other, Mixed White, and Black African, or other mixed origin and be a UK resident.

2. Candidates must hold or expect to achieve a first-class or upper-second-class honors degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area. 

3. They must also have applied for and received an unconditional offer of a place in a Ph.D. program at the University of Glasgow before the application deadline. 

4. Candidates must demonstrate how their proposed research aligns with the University’s research strategy and contributes to the advancement of knowledge in their field of study.

5. Applicants for the James McCune Smith Ph.D. Scholarships are required to submit a detailed research proposal outlining their intended research topic, research questions, methodology, and expected outcomes. 

6. The proposal should also include a detailed timeline for the research project and a clear indication of how the proposed research will contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the relevant field.
