National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship
The NSF GRFP offers three-year fellowships for graduate studies in various fields, including mathematics, physical sciences, biological sciences, engineering, behavioral and social sciences, and the history of science.
It also provides special awards for women pursuing engineering and computer information science degrees.
This fellowship includes a yearly stipend of $34,000, along with tuition waivers and fee coverage for three years. The application process, with the first part due in early October, can be completed online.
Candidates applying for this fellowship should possess research experience. All NSF GRFP applications undergo evaluation based on two key criteria: Intellectual Merit and Broader Impacts.
To create a competitive application, it is crucial to thoroughly address both of these review criteria in your Personal, Relevant Background, and Future Goals Statement, as well as in your Graduate Research Statement.

Eligibility Requirements
To apply, you should meet the following criteria:
1. Hold U.S. citizenship, national status, or permanent residency.
2. If you are an undergraduate student, you should be in your senior year, or if you’re a graduate student, you should be in your first or second year of study (Note: Graduate students can apply only once).
3. Have the intention to pursue a research-oriented master’s or PhD program in a field supported by the GRFP.
4. Be enrolled in an eligible program at an accredited graduate institution in the United States, with a U.S. campus, by the fall semester following your selection.
How to Apply
1. Use the Research.gov portal to submit your application.
2. If you wish to receive a practice score for your application, send it to Ashlee Ford Versypt at least 72 hours before the NSF GRFP deadline specific to your discipline.
Application Deadline
Different dates in October are assigned based on your specific academic discipline each year. To find the exact dates for your discipline, refer to the program solicitation available on the NSF website.
