About Bangalore University

Bangalore University, located in the Garden City of Bangalore and the Capital of India,” was founded in July 1964 as an offshoot of the University of Mysore, primarily to include institutions of higher learning located in the metropolitan city of Bangalore and the districts of Bangalore, Kolar, and Tumkur.

Initially, the city’s two premier colleges, Central College (CC) and University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE), constituted the nucleus of Bangalore University.

In 1965-66, as a first step in reorganizing course instructions, Bangalore University created Honours Courses.

Many talented students have enrolled in three-year Honours degrees in Botany, Chemistry, Economics, English, Geology, Kannada, Mathematics, and Zoology, which are exclusively available through University Postgraduate Departments.

Honors students were admitted to Post Graduate Courses first, while B.A./B.Sc. graduates who narrowly missed admission to Post Graduate Courses were allowed to enroll in the final year Honours course and then apply for Post Graduate Courses.

The committee praised the approach to inter-disciplinary teaching, extracurricular activities, health and public awareness programs, strong student-teacher relationships, a transparent admissions process, a global student profile, sensible resource utilization, and research quality.
