Pondicherry University is a central research university located in Kalapet, Puducherry. It is one of the best public universities in the world, ranking 1201-1400 according to the QS World University Rankings 2025.

The university is placed 101-150 in the ‘University’ category by the NIRF 2023 Rankings. Established in 1985, the University has received Grade ‘A’ certification from the NAAC and is recognized by the University Grants Commission. It now has 100 colleges and 11 research centers affiliated with it.

Pondicherry University offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate studies. It offers a variety of courses, including BSc, BTech, BA, MA, MSc, MTech, and PhD, in fields such as arts, technology, management, and science.

Their admissions are based on performance in TNEA, CUET-UG, and CUET-PG. With 1,500 research researchers, Central University of Pondicherry is well-known for its research-based curriculum, which is available in both full-time and part-time modalities.

They also has a DEB-accredited distance learning center that offers undergraduate and graduate courses via distance learning.

Pondicherry University’s PG cutoff 2023 for MA and MSc courses was determined using CUET-PG results. The MSc cutoff ranged from 234 to 243, whereas the MA cutoff was 235 in English and Comparative Literature.

Admission Process

Pondicherry University Admissions 2024 began with the application procedure for CUET UG this year. The central university offers a variety of integrated graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in Science, Arts, Management, Commerce, and Law, among others.

Pondicherry University admits students to the bulk of its integrated PG and PG courses through the CUET UG and CUET PG exams.

Additionally, the university administered the NCET exam for admission to its Integrated BA-B.Ed and Integrated BSc-B.Ed programs.

University Location

Pondicherry University is conveniently located and easily accessible to Pondicherry residents and those from adjacent cities. It is located approximately 165 km south of Chennai. The university is well-connected by road and rail, and there is also a small airport nearby, which is only 11.4 kilometers away.

The University’s campus is located approximately 11 kilometers north of Pondicherry Bus Stand, and students can easily access the campus via the town bus. Commuting from this bus stop to the university campus would take approximately 25 minutes.

Furthermore, the nearest bus depot to PU is the Jayanthi Bus Depot, which is only 10.9 kilometers away.

It  is very close to the train station, which is about 11 kilometers from the university campus. Furthermore, students from adjacent cities such as Chennai and Bangalore may readily access the campus.

Buses go frequently from Chennai to Pondicherry via the ECR route, and students can be dropped off at the university gate upon request. Moreover, there are KSRTC buses that move between Bangalore and Pondicherry multiple times per day..
