Banaras Hindu University

Founded in 1916 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Banaras Hindu Institution (BHU), formerly known as Central Hindu College, is a public institution.

As one of India’s Institutes of National Importance, it is the biggest residential university in Asia, with the mission of “serving as a pivotal player in developing highly skilled personnel.”

By concentrating on science and technology that may be used to their advantage as well as Indian religion and culture, BHU was founded with the intention of addressing India’s poverty and the lower income of Indians compared to Europeans.

The main campus spans 1,300 acres and is located on the southern outskirts of Varanasi, close to the Ganges river’s banks.

Indo-Gothic buildings from the early 20th century are arranged in a semicircle.

Both lodging for full-time teaching members and more than sixty residential hostels for students are available. It took about thirty years to build the complex of temples known as the Shri Vishwanath Mandir, which stands at a height of 252 feet in the middle of the campus.

The art and archeological museum, Bharat Kala Bhavan, is well known for its Indian paintings, while it also has textiles, costumes, and other artifacts.
