Kashmir University

The University of Jammu and Kashmir was established in 1948. In 1969, it was divided into two independent universities:

  • University of Kashmir in Srinagar
  • University of Jammu in Jammu

It is located in Hazratbal, Srinagar, between the renowned Dal Lake to the east and Nigeen Lake to the west.

The main campus, covering 247 acres, is split into three sections: Hazratbal Campus, Naseem Bagh Campus, and Mirza Bagh Campus, which serves as a residential area. Additional land at Zakura near the main campus has been acquired for further expansion.

The serene environment of the campus fosters an ideal setting for focused study and research. Over the years, the University has grown significantly, establishing satellite campuses in Anantnag (South Campus) and Baramulla (North Campus), with plans for additional campuses in Kupwara, Kargil, and Leh to make higher education more accessible to those in remote areas of the Kashmir Valley.

The university has also opened a sub-office in Jammu to serve students from outside Kashmir.

Committed to providing a stimulating academic environment, the University of Kashmir aims to enhance the educational, economic, scientific, business, and cultural landscape of the region.

The university offers programs across major faculties, including Arts, Business & Management Studies, Education, Law, Applied Sciences & Technology, Biological Sciences, Physical & Material Sciences, Social Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Oriental Learning, and Music & Fine Arts. It continually introduces new and innovative programs to meet the evolving needs of students and society.
