Let’s take a peek at the acceptance rates of some top-notch universities:
Stanford University
Stanford set a record-low overall admission rate of 3.68% for the Class of 2026. However, they’re keeping mum about the rate for the class of 2027.
If they want to outdo Harvard’s rate, they’ve got to aim for an even more competitive benchmark. Although, let’s be real, expecting it to dip below Harvard’s might be a bit too much.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
MIT spilled the beans on their overall admission rate for the Class of 2027—it’s 4.68%. That’s a drop from the previous year, thanks to a 20% decrease in applications. Even though MIT hit a record-low rate of 3.96% for the Class of 2026, they still couldn’t top Harvard’s 3.19%.
Duke University
Duke University is hanging in the game with an overall admission rate of 6% for the Class of 2027, a smidge lower than the 6.2% for the Class of 2026. While Duke is keeping it seriously competitive, it’s not in the same league as Harvard.

However, Northwestern isn’t in the race for the title of having the lowest overall admission rate among the top American universities. They’re holding their own but not aiming for the absolute lowest.
