About Ishan Uday Scholarship
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced a unique scholarship program called Ishan Uday for students from the North Eastern Region (NER).
This scheme aims to support NER students pursuing various courses, such as general degrees, technical and professional programs, and even medical and paramedical courses.
Every year, a total of 10,000 fresh scholarships are awarded through the Ishan Uday scholarship program. The scholarship recipients receive a monthly amount of up to INR 7,800 until they complete their degree course.
Commencing from the academic year 2014-15, the Ishan Uday scholarship initiative has the objective of fostering higher education among financially disadvantaged students and boosting enrollment rates in the North East Region.
Additionally, the UGC intends to facilitate the advancement of professional education in the NE Region by implementing this scholarship scheme.
Eligibility Criteria
The Ishan Uday scholarship is open to applicants hailing from the North Eastern states of India. Please find below the comprehensive eligibility criteria for the Ishan Uday scholarship:
1. Candidates must possess domicile in the North-Eastern states, namely Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.
2. The annual family income of the candidates should not exceed INR 4.5 lakh from all sources.
3. Applicants must have passed their class 12 examination or its equivalent in the previous academic year before applying for the scholarship.
4. Additionally, candidates must have secured admission in the first year of any degree course, including integrated programs, in universities/colleges/institutes that fall under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act.
This includes Deemed-to-be Universities covered under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, and institutions eligible to receive grants-in-aid from UGC, state/centrally-funded educational institutions, institutes of national repute, and those institutes with AISHE code for admissions.
5. Transgender students are also eligible to apply for the Ishan Uday scholarship.
6. Students pursuing studies through open universities are not eligible for the Ishan Uday scholarship.
7. Candidates admitted through the management quota, receiving any other scholarship, or pursuing courses that do not lead to the award of a degree are not eligible for this scholarship.
Ishan Uday Rewards
The Ishan Uday scholarship program for the North Eastern Region (NER) offers a total of 10,000 scholarships annually to selected students.
I disbursed these scholarships at a rate of up to INR 7,800 per month. The scholarship amount is directly transferred to the recipients’ bank accounts through the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) mode.
The allocation of scholarships to each North Eastern State is based on the respective state’s population according to the latest Census report.
Here are the details of the Ishan Uday scholarship amounts:
1. Students pursuing general degree courses are eligible for a monthly scholarship amount of INR 5,400 until the completion of their courses.
2. Students enrolled in technical, medical, professional, or paramedical courses who are selected for the scholarship receive a monthly amount of INR 7,800.

The NER scholarship is typically announced annually in August, with the application deadline falling in November. However, the application timeline for the academic year 2024 has not been announced yet.

Application Process

1. New applicants need to register on the NSP Portal as new users by providing accurate information.
2. During the registration process, applicants must provide details about their educational qualifications, Aadhaar Number, School/College Enrolment Number, Bank details, and State of Domicile.
3. An application ID is generated based on the applicant’s domicile state, which also serves as the login ID on the NSP Portal for future references.
4. Essential information such as the applicant’s name, date of birth, email ID, identification details, and mobile number must be filled in accurately.
5. After completing the registration form, an OTP is generated, which the applicant must use to log in and fill out the scholarship application form.
6. It is important for applicants to upload all the necessary documents and submit the application form.
Ishan Uday Scholarship Renewal
To ensure the continuation of the Ishan Uday scholarship in the following years, Ishan Uday scholars must meet the following criteria:
1. Students seeking renewal must progress to the next class, level, or semester.
2. Awardees are required to exhibit exemplary behavior and maintain the prescribed attendance to have their scholarships renewed for the subsequent year.
3. It is important to note that changing the course of study is not allowed. If a student decides to change their course, the scholarship will be forfeited.
