About ICCR Scholarship

During the opening plenary of the India-Africa Forum Summit in April 2008, hosted in New Delhi, the esteemed Prime Minister of India unveiled the Government of India’s commitment to amplifying educational prospects for students hailing from African nations.

This pledge encompassed augmenting the count of scholarships available to these students, facilitating their pursuit of undergraduate, postgraduate, and advanced programs within India.

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) undertakes the execution of this initiative on behalf of the Ministry of External Affairs.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Applicants pursuing doctoral/postdoctoral courses are required to include a summary outlining their proposed research area.

2. Aspiring students in performing arts are encouraged, if possible, to enclose video/audio recordings of their performances.

3. Candidates should possess a satisfactory command of the English language.

4. ICCR will not process applications sent directly by students or forwarded by local Embassies/High Commissions in New Delhi.

5. Preference will be given to candidates without prior educational experience in India.

6. Applications for admission to MBBS/MD, Dentistry, or Nursing programs will not be considered.

7. Applicants should be aware that Indian universities/educational institutions operate independently and possess their own eligibility criteria, which must be met.

Furthermore, the acceptance of an application by a university does not guarantee admission. ICCR confirms a scholarship only after admission is officially approved.

8. Scholars must hold an appropriate visa. It is crucial for students to obtain the correct visa through the Indian Embassy/High Commission.

Government of India regulations stipulate that scholars arriving without the proper visa and failing to secure actual admission at their chosen University/Institute will face deportation to their home country.

9. Before departing for India, scholars should receive comprehensive guidance from the Indian Diplomatic Mission in their country regarding living conditions, scholarship details, and the nature/duration of their enrolled course.

It’s recommended that scholars inform the Indian Embassy/High Commission well in advance of their travel schedule, enabling ICCR to make necessary arrangements for their reception and other needs.

10. Scholars are advised to carry a certain amount of money with them to cover initial expenses upon arrival in India.

11. Scholars who receive scholarships should bring their original qualification documents for verification by the respective college/university during the admission process.
